FYI there is absolutely no compulsory vacation time employers must grant in the US. It's 100% market based. They don't even have to let you off for national holidays or weekends (but of course, almost all do.) Hopefully since so many countries have generous vacation time, and because the world is getting more competitive, the US trend will be to increase the amount of vacation in order to attract and retain people. Cool pubcast!

For the sake of your average American working Joe, I hope you're right Dave. Its long been reasoned that a happy worker is a productive worker... as opposed to a unhappy worker who does next to nothing at work. More vacation time makes workers happy.

Couldn't agree more - Just back from a 5 week holiday / vacation in Ireland and must confess that I'm a happy worker:)
Cheers for the feedback Dave - the next Pubcast is coming next week (probably next thursday) where we'll be comparing Ireland and New Zealand as places to live... as well as the usual Kiwi fun stuff
